Safety Harbor is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, on the west shore of Tampa Bay. It occupies a compact footprint of about five square miles along the bay, across the water from Tampa, and has a population of roughly 17,000. The city sits within the Tampa Bay metropolitan area, near Clearwater, Dunedin, and Oldsmar. The community's identity is tied to its natural mineral springs. Long known to Indigenous peoples and early settlers, the springs later anchored the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, founded in 1925, and earned the town its early reputation as the "Health Giving City." The resort remains a signature local institution, and the springs' story is preserved as part of the area's heritage. Modern Safety Harbor is best known for its walkable, small-town downtown.
